This is a behind the scenes view of a very fun shoot I recently did for a Fitness Magazine. The subject is a 40 year old mother of two who is in the middle of getting a divorce and instead of feeling sorry for herself, channeled her energy into fitness. She is now preparing for her first amateur body building contest.
I am a happily married father of three, and my wife is very busy executive. Which naturally means that from time to time I have to watch the kids myself for a few days when she travels. OMG! Usually in 24 hours I want to lock myself up in my room and rock back and forth in the fetal position until my wife comes home and rescues me! So I have problems even trying to fathom how so many single mothers are raising their kids by themselves, all of the time.
How could I possibly NOT find Kia’s story so utterly fascinating! I mean to be a single mother, who is working full time, and still works out every day? Who does that? That’s when I began to realize that Kia’s marriage ending was clearly, less of a loss when you compare it to what she gained? The tragic end of Kia’s marriage gave birth to an entirely new Kia. Out of the ashes, Kia has arisen to an entirely new person and an entirely new life with entirely new possibilities. Kia was the living embodiment of a Phoenix and that became my theme for her shoot.
